Lean Change Element

Personal Safety

We make it safe for people opposed to the change to give their honest feedback

Personal Safety

Personal Safety vs traditional thinking

Two different assumptions about how change should work.

Lean Change

We need to do what we can so people feel like they can speak up and participate in the change.

Traditional Change Management

We need to overcome fixed mindsets and convince people they need to participate in the change.

Psychological safety is important, but as the phrase was latched onto by the mainstream business community it has lost a bit of its meaning.

At its worst, it's been used as a defence mechanism for people who simply don't agree with the change. At it's best, it's been used to help people feel free enough to speak up.
